WWII German Mothers Cross

The German Mothers Cross, officially known as the Cross of Honor of the German Mother (Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter), was a state decoration awarded by Nazi Germany to honor German mothers for their contributions to the Aryan population. It was established by Adolf Hitler on December 16, 1938.

The German Mothers Cross was intended to recognize and promote the ideal of motherhood as defined by the Nazi regime. It was awarded to women who met specific criteria related to their maternal role. To be eligible for the award, a woman had to be of German nationality, have German ancestry, and demonstrate good character and loyalty to the Nazi Party.

The cross came in three classes, each denoting the number of children a mother had raised:

  1. Bronze Cross: Awarded to women who had given birth to four or five children.
  2. Silver Cross: Awarded to women who had given birth to six or seven children.
  3. Gold Cross: Awarded to women who had given birth to eight or more children.
