The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (in German, Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) was a significant military decoration awarded by Nazi Germany during World War II. It was instituted on September 1, 1939, by Adolf Hitler.
The Knight's Cross was awarded for a wide range of accomplishments, primarily for acts of extreme bravery in combat or distinguished military leadership. It was one of the highest awards that could be given to military personnel within the German Armed Forces.
