Demjansk Shield
Field grey wool and steel backed support.
The Demjansk Shield was a military decoration instituted by the Wehrmacht (German armed forces) during World War II. It was awarded to soldiers who took part in the defense of the Demyansk pocket from January 1942 to May 1943.
The Demyansk pocket was a significant battleground on the Eastern Front. German forces, encircled by Soviet troops, managed to hold their position for an extended period despite being cut off from their supply lines. The shield was issued as a badge to commemorate the soldiers' bravery and endurance during this siege.
