The German Spanish Cross (Deutsches Spanien-Kreuz) was a military decoration awarded by Nazi Germany to German soldiers who served in the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). It was created on April 14, 1939, by Adolf Hitler to recognize the German participants in the conflict.
The German Spanish Cross was awarded in two classes: Gold and Silver. The Gold Cross was awarded to individuals who had served in combat for at least six months and demonstrated exceptional bravery or leadership. The Silver Cross was awarded to those who had served for a shorter period or did not meet the criteria for the Gold Cross but still demonstrated meritorious service.
