Knights War Merit without Swords
The Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross (Ritterkreuz des Kriegsverdienstkreuzes) was a high-ranking German decoration instituted during World War II. There were two versions of the War Merit Cross: one with swords (for military contributions) and one without swords (for civilians or non-combatant personnel).
The Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross without swords was awarded to individuals who made significant contributions to the war effort without direct involvement in combat. This could include civilians, administrators, industrialists, or others whose efforts were deemed crucial to the war but were not directly engaged in military operations.
The decoration was in the form of a Maltese cross with a wreath of oak leaves between the arms of the cross. In the center, there was a swastika and a German eagle with its wings spread. The Knight's Cross was worn around the neck on a ribbon.
