The Saarland enamel pin “We Wish to be Free and German” (“Wollen wir sein frei und deutsch”) is a historical political badge associated with the 1935 Saar status referendum, a vote in 1935 Saar status referendum. In that referendum, over 90% of the population of the Territory of the Saar Basin chose to return to Germany after 15 years under League of Nations administration following World War I agreements.
