1939 Knights Cross of the Iron Cross in Nickel Silver
3-piece construction with heavy, antiqued Nickel silver plate finish, black painted center, suspension loop and 12" of ribbon.
The 1939 Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross in nickel silver is one of the most iconic and highly regarded German military decorations of the Second World War. Instituted on 1 September 1939 by Adolf Hitler at the outbreak of World War II, the Knight’s Cross (Ritterkreuz) was awarded for exceptional bravery on the battlefield or outstanding military leadership.
Crafted in a traditional cross pattée design, the 1939 version features a blackened iron core framed by a bright nickel silver border. The obverse displays a central swastika and the date “1939,” signifying its reintroduction during the Second World War, while the reverse bears the date “1813,” commemorating the original establishment of the Iron Cross by King Frederick William III during the Napoleonic Wars.
